The 3rd Mushroom interweaves reality and memory, spanning two timelines to depict the turbulent life of Xiang Sheng master Chang Baoting. Rising to fame at nine in the 1930s, Baoting endures the invasion of japan, kuomintang, the Cultural Revolution and the rise of New China. In 1966, as Xiang Sheng is banned and he is ordered to clean out his dressing room, memories of his father and brother inspire the groundbreaking routine ‘Digging for Treasures,’ reviving the art—but at a cost to him greater than anyone could imagine.​
